How to ensure the Durability of an Oxygen Concentrator?

People with respiratory issues often consider traveling risky but this is just a taboo. People who need oxygen therapy to maintain their body oxygen level feel they are not born to travel. They keep themselves confined to their house or locality. Their social life becomes zero which takes a toll on their mental health.

But it’s high time to come out of their shell and live their life to the fullest just like any other person. They got all the right to travel to their favorite destination and live their dreams. Especially with the advancement of technology, this has become easy and risk-free.

One such tech-driven product is the oxygen concentrator.

Oxygen concentrators are not a new concept but they have gained popularity owing to their contribution to handling the situation across the globe during the second wave of Covid-19.

There are mainly two types of oxygen concentrators namely:

Continuous flow oxygen concentrators: These oxygen concentrators provide the same static flow of oxygen unless turned off.

Pulse oxygen concentrators: These oxygen concentrators supply oxygen when they detect a breathing pattern and inhalation by the person using them.

These oxygen concentrators have various benefits to offer to the clients but in return, we need to take care of their maintenance.

How?

Let’s talk about it in detail.

Ways to Maintain an Oxygen Concentrator

  • Take care of the ventilation

It is extremely important to take care of the ventilation of the room in which the oxygen concentrator is placed and being used. The room needs to have windows and a proper area to ensure that air will pass through the space.

So, the first step in good maintenance is making sure the unit is placed in a well-ventilated space with roughly 6 feet of space around it to properly pull air and vent exhaust. This means that a closet, bathroom, or small corner are NOT good locations.

The unit needs about 8 inches – 12 inches of space around it. This is roughly an 80-square-foot room.

  • Make sure that the environment is clean

Living in an environment that ensures hygiene is a must and if a patient who is dealing with respiratory issues is there in the home then you must pay more attention to the cleanliness quotient.

A concentrator pulls air from the surrounding environment to create medical-grade concentrated oxygen, so it is essential to keep the unit itself clean and in a clean environment. The outside of the unit should be kept clean of dust and pet hair.

If the unit itself is needing to be routinely cleaned, it is a sign that the filters may need more frequent cleaning as well.

  • Call professionals for the job of respiratory repairs

In case of any doubt or issue, you can call the professionals to carry out the task of respiratory repairs for you. In this process, they will check the concentrator and will repair the part that has issues.

These respiratory repairs are extremely crucial as they will ensure the promising durability of the oxygen concentrators

Summary

Oxygen concentrators can do miracles for people dealing with respiratory issues but they need minor maintenance too. So, do care about the above-mentioned points and don’t let any of them slip your mind.
